01 · The story

Barton Springs:
A Brief History

Barton Springs is Austin's spring-fed swimming area. For thousands of years, the springs were used by the Tonkawa Native American tribe for purification rituals. Today, Barton Springs is one of Austin's most visited local gems. The pool has a constant 68 degree temperature year round, perfect for the soaring Texas summers.

In 1837, William (Uncle Billy) Barton settled the area and took to naming the three springs that feed the pool after his three daughters: Parthenia, Eliza and Zenobia. In the 1920s the area was deeded to the city of Austin, and the pool took the formation it has today with concrete walls and sidewalks.

Margarita

Lime on a dive dial is a loud idea done quietly. The colour sits bright under the lume and the black bezel keeps it in check, so it reads as a tool first and a summer watch second.

The one for the water. Sixty-eight degrees, year round.

Bracelet and strap.
Both in the box.

Every Barton Springs ships on a 316L solid end link 3-Link bracelet, with a full lume FKM Tropical Rubber strap in the box.

Both are 22mm, with the D|Change, D|Adjust and D|Protect features of the D|System.

I've had a lifelong love affair with mechanical watches. From my first watch at age 8 to inheriting my grandfather's old Wyler from my mother, they've always been central to my life.

Every DuFrane is built by hand in my Austin shop. I regulate each movement. I test every piece.

Case

Marine grade 316L stainless steel. 42mm across the case and bezel, 47.4mm lug to lug, 11.9mm high, 22mm lug width. 84g for the case, 118g with the bracelet.

Crystal

Sapphire, with a five-layer anti-reflective coating on the inside. Sapphire open case back.

Crown

7mm screw-down crown with a double silicone gasket system.

Bezel

120-click uni-directional timing bezel. Aluminium insert with an applied C3 lume pip.

Movement

Swiss mechanical automatic, ETA 2824-2 top grade. 38 hour power reserve. Novadiac anti-shock system. Regulated to +/-4 seconds per day.

Lume

Swiss SuperLumiNova C3 X1 grade. Hour and minute hands diamond-cut and polished with C3 lume; seconds hand diamond-cut with a C3 reverse lollipop.

Water resistance

20ATM, 200m / 656ft.

Bracelet and strap

316L solid end link 3-Link bracelet and FKM rubber strap, both included. A tiny drop of Loctite Purple 222 on each screw pin when sizing the bracelet keeps the pins seated; Steven does this when bracelet sizing is selected.
